Xirimiri is a fine, almost imperceptible rain, which is characteristic of Donostia. This light rain is part of the local DNA, just like a brief summer storm inland, or a squall on the coast. We can start the day, equipped with the consequent raincoat and umbrella, visiting the port of Donostia, a few meters from Lasala Plaza Hotel. In this neighborhood, formerly called the Jarana neighborhood, we find two museums related to the sea a few meters from each other: the Aquarium and the Naval Museum (Euskal Itsas Museoa).
After the cultural visit, a few meters away we already enter the most powerful nature of the city, the Paseo Nuevo, a large space that runs along the slopes of Mount Urgull next to the cliffs of the Cantabrian Sea. Here the waves are truly impressive and the soaking, almost assured.
After the strong emotions, we return to the Old Part of Donostia and we come across Zuloaga square and the San Telmo museum, an old Dominican convent converted into a museum, with a cloister and huge Sert canvases that you will hardly forget.
And as the xirimiri persists, it’s time for an aperitif and we are in the Old Town… nothing better than eating based on exquisite pintxos, a local specialty of miniature cuisine internationally recognized. As a curiosity, each bar has its own “star” pintxos, different in each establishment. Ask for them and you will enjoy them.
The afternoon we can dedicate to go shopping. We highlight the two shopping centers of San Martin and La Bretxa where, under cover, obviously, we can know the most varied commercial offer of Donostia. The pedestrian streets of the city center present all kinds of shops, especially dedicated to fashion, accessories and jewelry but we recommend you visit the local shops, those that honor the fame of good dressing and taste that characterizes Donostia.
